Rashad prepares fighters and has fought twice since Rampages last fight.I want Rampage to win but he will need to be focused if he could stay focused through out his career he could of stayed on top he is much better now then he used to be and if he would train harder for everyone and be mentally stronger I dont know who could stop him at 205 not even Rua he was a different fighter in PRIDE ask Wand
Just his complete style (crisp stand up, great bjj, durable) makes me think he has the skills to beat anyone at 205. And what makes u so sure that Shogun will still be champ when Little Nog is fightin’ for the title? Nobody has been able hold the belt at 205. Too many tough dudes thurr
anyway… I always liked Lil’nogs style.. He’s going to do some serious damage in the division…I would have liked to see him fight sooner than this after his debut…
I’m pumped for the fight…
1st round KO!
In a way I’m glad he never even got the chance at a hw title match, although we all saw how he did even against Tim-MEH. He’ll say he was out all that time, didn’t help and he broke his hand the first round, blah blah. Excuses, excuses. That kind of stuff happens in a fight, just ask Faber.
Seems like Vera had a window of opportunity to have a somewhat memorable career, now he’ll just be remembered for beating a post motorcycle accident Mir. The only wins Vera has since beating a already beaten down Mir in ‘06, are ex-IFL and Bodog fighters. No upper echelon fighters.
LHW has really come down to 5 great fighters who could beat any of the remaining LHWs. There are currently 5 great LHWs (Rua, Machida, Anderson, Lil’ Nog, JJones) and several good or very good LHWs (Rampage, Evans, Griffin, T. Silva, Couture, Bader, Franklin, Chuck, Mousasi and the like).
I didn’t include Lawal in either group, as I view him as something of a wildcard. He has the best functional (ie MMA-centric) wrestling of anyone not named GSP or Lesnar, but his submission defense remains suspect (his GnP could be much better were it not for SF’s idiotic prohibition of elbow strikes).
Aside from the proverbial “puncher’s chance,” for the most part, those in the second group have almost no chance against any of the best 5, and would probably lose 8 or 9 out of 10 against them (although there are a few favorable match-ups).
Aside from the younger and potentially still-evolving guys (Bader, T. Silva, perhaps Cane), these guys have no realistic hope of ever holding the title, but many are still very good fighters. Some are simply too old and some are too one-dimensional. Others were fairly well-rounded for their time, but now are part of a fading era when unevolved fighters could still contend for, and even win, titles. In other words, their time has come and gone.
One I omitted, Lawal, is really something of a wildcard. He has probably the best functional (ie MMA-centric) wrestling of anyone not named GSP or Lesnar, but his submission defense at this point looks to consist of little more than powering out. I would probably put him 6th (between the two groups), but need to see more of him before including him in with the top group (although he would beat almost everyone outside of that top 5 if fighting under the UFC version of the Unified Rules).
and he SAID in an interview, he didnt like the matchup and didnt want to fight lil nog
